NATURE
OF WORK:
The nurse practitioner is responsible for providing direct patient care in assigned area. Performs assessment and treatment. Delivers case management and supportive services to clients. Functions as a member of the treatment team. Provides professional expertise and participates in the administration of a variety of therapeutic modalities and training programs in the field of mental health. Communicates effectively. Consults and coordinates with health care providers working in other departments and in other locations. Participates in fulfilling the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the organization. Works in coordination with management to develop and implement a quality assurance program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple clinical tasks. Ability and comfort to educate and coordinate with other health care professionals. Knowledge of 1974 Privacy Act is required as use of patient record is an integral part of the position and privacy of individuals must be protected to the fullest. Knowledge of the resources available to treatment plans. Knowledge and skill in effective communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge and skill to use the computer. Skill and capability to efficiently make decisions independently. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards. Knowledge of sexual abuse and domestic violence issues. Ability to work easily and in a friendly manner with the general public and occasionally handle the hostile or disgruntled patient. Ability in evaluating suicidal individuals or individuals in crisis and managing their safe disposition. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards. Knowledge of the medical aspects of psychological disorders. Ability to deal with the most difficult types of patients. Ability to provide on demand consultation on medical and prescribing issues to non-medically trained behavioral health providers. Ability to manage medically complicated patients who require psychotropic medicines and consulting with primary care physicians with the goal of improving general prescription practices. Knowledge of Alcohol and Substance Abuse treatment and issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Current Certification by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurse Credentialing Center, (NP). Minimum two years experience as an ANP. Preferably in a multi-disciplinary setting, with prescriptive privileges. Must have current valid Alaska license. Credentialing organization must be covered by requirement of the State of Alaska Board of Nursing. Must be eligible for DEA certification. Meets all requirements in order to obtain associate medical staff membership and required privileges of service. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. ACLS, NRP, ATLS, ALSO and PALS as required for specialty. Specialized expertise in psychopharmacology.
