NATURE OF WORK:

Provides professional nursing services to accomplish the individual patient plan of care; independently and consistently using the nursing process to safely, therapeutically, and efficiently care for a full assignment of patients with subtle and sometimes unidentified needs. Supports the operations of the Emergency Department and the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Knowledge of a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard assignments reflected in licensure as a practical nurse and broad work experience that demonstrates skill sufficient to resolve a range of problems with responsibility for carrying assignments to completion in providing care to a selected patient load. Knowledge of the human body structure and function, sufficient to recognize illness, diseases, and emotional and physical reaction to care for the purpose of reporting and recording. Knowledge of clinic/department procedures for assembling patient charts, recording provider’s orders, integrating x-ray ad test reports, graphing and charting medical data. Demonstrated ability to provide accurate documentation in the patient health record. Demonstrated ability to learn the computer system, applying the knowledge to accurately schedule patient appointments and test. Demonstrated ability to accurately record vital signs, perform phlebotomy, specimen collection and record EKG’s. Demonstrated ability to assist with patient monitoring during and post-procedure, applying knowledge of safety principles, recognition of emergencies and provision of appropriate interventions. Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain a wide variety of medical equipment and monitoring devices. Must be able to interpret these devices including deviations from normal values. Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to culturally diverse customs and traditions impacting health care of patient and family.

QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community. Alaska licensure as Registered Nurse is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. 2 years of nursing experience.
