NATURE
OF WORK:
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of educational services to students at The Pathway Home (TPH) and The Therapeutic Family Group Home (TFGH). Supervises and coordinates all aspects of mandatory academic and vocational education. Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide quality education and culturally acceptable services to the students.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Seeks out additional learning opportunities to continue to develop the technical and professional skills needed now and in the future. Takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions by following through on commitments. Develops educational curriculum relevant to students ages 13-18: Collaborates with Chugach School District to ensure that computer based coursework is relevant. Assists teachers and instructors to maximize learning experiences for students. Develops guidelines, policies, and procedures for educational employees at TPH. Ensures that all aspects of education at TPH meet Federal and State guidelines for regular and special needs students. Keeps Program Manger informed of all needed and optional changes effecting education of students at TPH and TFGH. Supervises the educational, recreational, and vocational components of The Pathway Home program. Identifies, develops implements, and evaluates curricula for credit in accordance with accepted standards and practice. Meets with staff on regular basis to ensure consistency and coordination of efforts within educational service area. Supervises educational staff and provides substitute services as required. Spends time daily in classrooms assisting teachers in delivery of services. Prepares, presents, and distributes periodic written reports in narrative and statistical formats. Participates and coordinates activities with multi-disciplinary members of treatment teams. Participates in the coordination, facilitation, and development of group services, as needed. Maintains daily calendar of events to ensure all service areas are kept informed and to minimize disruptions to services. Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing input on issues and progress regarding educational, recreational, and vocational plans. Consults and coordinates services to clients with education, law enforcement and other human service agencies. Accepts and provides feedback regarding all client issues. Fulfills requirements for reimbursements including prior authorizations, continued care authorizations, etc. Adheres to agency policy regarding documentation and medical record procedures. As required, performs other duties in other departments of SCF in order to support the attainment of service goals for SCF. Expands capability to be self-directed in the management of responsibilities. Coordinates Continuing Education for Educational Staff. Facilitates staff training and coordinates professional development plans for staff. Provides on-going feedback to employees regarding performance. Administers human resources policies and procedures. Schedules employees to ensure coverage. Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, mental health, counseling, and substance abuse issues. Strong written and oral communication skills and a high degree of proficiency working independently and in a multidisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others. Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, mental health, counseling, and substance abuse issues while working in a multidisciplinary team environment. Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of others. Demonstrated experience in grant research, writing, and the acquisition and coordination of services through federal, state and local resources. Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Knowledgeable in budget development and management of a comparable sized organization.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community. MS/MA/M.Ed. degree in education, social work, rehabilitation, counseling or related field. Two (2) years supervisory experience. Three (3) years teaching experience.
